My Soft City: From Flâneur to Entrepreneur is a project that aims at bettering cities’ youth dimension. In our quest to preserve cultural heritage by helping youth to become more fond of their patrimony we came to the conclusion that cities which are more youth-friendly have more chances to develop as united and proactive communities. This project offers youth a voice in what concerns their city’s cultural heritage and encourages them to become cultural and social entrepreneurs themselves by exposing them to such an environment that fosters educational, cultural and urban growth. By creating in the project framework, a book about real, successful stories of social and cultural entrepreneurs from the partner countries, we offer youth the motivation and inspiration they need to become change-makers themselves.

In the context of the 2023 European Year of Skills and the EU Legislative Priorities for 2023 and 2024, some of which refer to delivering the European Green Deal, to achieving digital transition and enhancing the EU’s resilience as well as promoting Europe as an attractive place for skilled workers and facilitating intra-EU mobility of skilled labour and trainees (Europa.eu), this project aims at coming with a fresh approach to environmental and heritage preservation through youth work. Therefore, this initiative doesn’t only propose an innovative output, which is a Virtual Herbarium, created by youth for youth, in order to ensure the preservation of an important environmental and cultural inheritance for the future generations, but also a complex learning methodology for both youth and youth workers, which can be multiplied through the provided knowledge and tools in the TELL Youth project. While this consortium of partners mixes organizations coming from different backgrounds, NGOs, cultural institutions, universities and schools, the project promotes lifelong learning in the field of environmental protection among young people. The project doesn’t only wish to educate youth about the crucial need for nature or of the dangerous risks that the world is facing nowadays, but also to cultivate a sense of care, respect, thoughtfulness as well as creativity, curiosity, and resourcefulness in the field of environmental protection, in order for them to be able to develop skills, knowledge, and attitudes and hence to grow personally and professionally and find solutions on their own whenever necessary.

This project focuses on engaging young people in preserving and promoting Europe’s cultural and natural heritage through innovative, hands-on activities. By combining technology, creativity, and community involvement, the initiative trains participants to become active stewards of heritage while fostering employability and social inclusion. Central to the project are activities like the digital mapping of 200 significant cultural and natural heritage sites across four European regions. This mapping effort, led by young participants working with local communities, experts, and elders, creates an interactive tool for conservation, tourism, and education. Another key output is the development of a comprehensive guidebook—“Cultural and Environmental Stewards”—offering best practices in heritage preservation and social engagement. Youth engagement is further amplified through workshops, training programs, and collaborative projects. Participants are trained in digital skills and social entrepreneurship, using frameworks like DIGCOMP to prepare them for sustainable careers in heritage and tourism. The project also facilitates intercultural learning by connecting young people and youth workers across borders via online tools, conferences, and learning exchanges.
